BWINDI & QUEEN ELIZABETH SAFARI (5 DAYS)
Day 1: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
In the morning after breakfast, you will set off from Kampala and then proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park the home of Mountain Gorillas. The park is estimated to harbour half of the world’s surviving population of mountain gorillas –300 and or more gorillas live within Bwindi boundaries. The journey is long but enjoyable. Bwindi National Park is located in the southwestern part of the country after the Kigezi Highlands once known as Switzerland of Africa. You will arrive in the evening. Dinner and overnight at the Gorilla Forest Camp/ Gorilla Resort/ Kitandara Camp/ Buhoma Homestead or Community Bandas.
Day 2: Gorilla tracking in the Bwindi Gorilla park
Following breakfast, you will be escorted to the park offices and begin your adventure. You will be briefed by your local guide and then proceed to the forest in search for these humble apes. The time taken to encounter the gorillas varies from 1 to 8 hours considering their movement. The thrill of meeting these gorillas face to face takes away the pain of some times long and arduous trek. Return to your lodge for lunch. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp/ Gorilla Resort/ Kitandara Camp/ Buhoma Homestead.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, you will head for Ishasha, which is the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park; have a game drive at the Ishasha sector where you may be able to see tree-climbing lions. Ishasha is dominated by acacia woodland and scrubland and features the meandering Ishasha River, banked by a riparian forest. After picnic lunch drive all the way to the northern sector of the park and check in at Mweya Safari Lodge or Jacana Safari Lodge or Institute of Ecology (budget). The evening will be at leisure dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park
Early morning game drive to see more animals that habit this park, that include predators lions, leopard and other game. Over 500 bird species have been identified here, making it the bird-watchers paradise. These include the black bee–eater, 11 different species of kingfisher and several falcons, eagles and other raptors.
After lunch, you will take a 2-hour launch cruise on the Kazinga channel. This waterway joins Lakes Edward and George and it is filled with schools of hippos, buffaloes and elephants at the water banks. Return to the lodge for dinner and over night.
Day 5: Return to Kampala
After early breakfast, drive to Kyambura gorge for a primate walk where your will see chimps and other primates such as Columbus & velvet monkeys and baboons. After tracking proceed to Kampala with your packed lunch.
