DETAILED RWANDA GORILLA TREK ITINERARY
DAY 1: The Journey to Rwanda
Our safari guide will pick your hotel for a transfer to the Volacnoes National park. The journey to this Gorilla Park goes through the beautiful terraced hillsides that characterize much of Rwanda’s landscape, gradually climbing to the base of the awesome Virunga volcanoes, sometimes with as many as five peaks visible. Dinner and overnight at Mount Gorilla Nest / Kinigi Guest House / Muhavura Lodge.
DAY 2: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in the Volacnoes Park
Wake up early morning and have breakfast then go for gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcanoes. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is a magical experience. If you have luck, you can get to the gorillas quickly, spend an hour with them, and be back at the base in time for a late lunch. Some gorilla families however are more elusive and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is wet and muddy. Dinner and overnight at Mount Gorilla Nest / Kinigi Guest House / Muhavura Lodge.
DAY 3: Golden Monkeys, Dian Fossey's Grave, Lake Kivu
Wake up and have breakfast then visit the golden monkeys, visit Ross Carr's orphanage and Lake Kivu or climb the Visoke/Muhavura volcanoes, or trek to Dian Fossey's grave, or visit the local school, community projects or walk to Lake Bulera. . Dinner and overnight at Volcanoes Virunga Lodge (FB).
DAY 4: Kigali City Tour
Leave for Kigali after breakfast in the morning. Time permitting; you will go for a tour of the city including a visit to the market, pottery project, handicraft shops, the Franco-Rwandan cultural centre and the genocide memorial. Transfer to the airport to catch your flight back home.
