RWANDA WILDLIFE TOUR AND VOLCANO CLIMBING (12 DAYS)
This tour includes a wildife tour in Akagera National park, mountain gorilla tracking from Volcanoes national park, primates tracking in Nyungwe Forest National park, hikes to Dian Fossey's grave, climbs to Mount Karisimbi etc
DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY
DAY 1: Arrival and transfer to Kigali
Arrive at Kanombe airport; you will be met by the guide who will transfer you to Hotel Mille Collines for overnight and dinner.
Day 2: Akagera National park wildlife Tour
After breakfast in the morning, you will travel to Akegera National Park for game viewing and bird watching. Overnight and dinner at Akagera Lodge.
Day 3: Wildlife Tour in Akagera National Park
Wake up and have breakfast, then proceed to the park for game viewing again. You may get a chance to see animals that you might not have seen the day before. Search for Zebra, eland and other wildlife. Overnight and dinner at Akagera Lodge.
Day 4: Transfer to Mountain gorilla Nest
Wake up and have breakfast at leisure, then go on a lovely 4 hour drive through winding roads and transfer to the Mountain Gorillas Nest Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Hike Up Mount Karisimbi
Wake up early morning, have breakfast and climb to Mount Karisimbi. Mount Karisimbi is the highest of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains. It is a huge dome, now dormant and dominates the range, more in girth than in height. Its name means white shell, which refers to its often white-capped summit. Interestingly, this cap results not from snow but from hail and sleet which accumulate in the higher elevations from its frequent storms. You will camp up in the Mountain before returning to the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorillas Nest Lodge.
Day 6: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park
Wake up and have breakfast then proceed for gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes gorilla park. Depending on the level of fitness, you may be allowed to choose the group of gorillas you wish to visit. The closest group being about 2 hours or even a couple of minutes from the park boundary. Dinner and overnight at the Mountain Gorillas’ Nest Lodge.
Day 7: Dian Fossey Research Centre
Early morning hike to the Famous Dian Fossey Research centre and Grave Yard. Where Dr. Fossey spent close to two decades habituating, studying and conserving the endangered Mountain Gorillas. Return for dinner and overnight at the Mountain Gorillas Nest Lodge in Kinigi.
Day 8: Nyungwe Forest and Its Primates
Have breakfast and then transfer to the Nyungwe Forest. This Forest contains a variety of habitats including montane forest, bamboo, grasslands, swamps and bogs, and is very mountainous too. It provides some of the best Golden Monkey trekking experiences in East Africa. Dinner and Overnight at Gisakura Guest House.
Day 9: Chimpanzee Tracking & the Golden Monkeys
Wake up and have breakfast early before going for Chimpanzee trekking expedition in the forest in search of colonies of habituated Golden Monkeys. Other wildlife in the forest include: grey-cheeked mangabeys, blue monkeys, Angolan colobus, L'hoest's monkeys and owl-faced monkeys. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest House.
Day 10: Lake Kivu & its Birds
After breakfast in the morning, travel to Lake Kivu. You will be able to see some water birds on the lake shore and also see water animals. Have picnic lunch while relaxing at the Beach. Overnight at the Kivu Sun Beach Hotel.
Day 11: Rwanda Memorial Genocide
Have the morning at leisure before heading to visit of the Genocide Memorial where remains of thousands of Tutsis and moderate Hutus can be seen. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Des Millecollines.
Day 12: Transfer to the airport
In the morning after breakfast, transfer to the airport for departure flight.
