UGANDA SHOEBILL SAFARI (MABAMBA SWAMPS & ENTEBBE BOTANICAL GARDENS)
Day 1: Entebbe Birding Environments
After breakfast in the morning, you will be picked from your hotel by the guide and proceed to the botanical gardens. These gardens are located on the shores of Lake Victoria and they provide a good introduction to the birds of Uganda. Expect to see birds like Verreaux’s eagle Owls, Jackson’s golden backed weaver, Red chested sunbirds, Vieillot’s black weaver, African open billed stork, Hamerkop, Black headed Herons, terns and plenty of Kingfishers, long tailed cormorant and many more. Dinner and overnight at the Botanical beach hotel / Imperial resort beach/ Lake View Windsor Hotel.
DAY 2: Mabamba Wetlands
Wake up and have breakfast and proceed to Mabamba wetland which is found in Mabamba village where the wetland derived its name. You will have walks along the loops that move westwards and reconnect with the main road by the help of the guide who will direct you around. You will first go for a dug out canoe ride on the shores to see water birds before you go for the walks. Expect birds like grey headed gull, the rare shoe bill, white winged terns, Yellow billed egret, Madagascar bee-eater, long toed plover and others. Drive back to Kampala and expect to see birds enroute reaching Kampala late evening. Dinner and overnight at Sheraton Hotel/ Hotel Africana/ Cassia Lodge.
